Been there, done that

Whitehorse, Yukon, Canada
Whitehorse is an awesome little town! We could easily live here during its three livable months...

We load up on groceries laughing at the foreign-ness of Canada. Shopping carts are rentable -- you pay a dollar to get a key that unlocks the cart for use in the store. We find an amazing used book store, a gorgeous space, a wonderful owner whom we talk books with. We trade in all our already read books and get another huge load for 27 bucks Canadian. Lovely, lovely store. Usually I can't walk out of a used book-store without spending at least 40 American...

We slip out of town to yet another Hot Springs, pay seven bucks per person to spend all day soaking in the hot pools. Ah, how this dissolves our lumps, bumps, aches, and pains. How lethargic we are afterwards, floating into the van, floating back to Whitehorse to spend the night and do a little more shopping the next day.

We spend the night in an empty wooded area behind some municipal softball fields and wake up the next day listening to Canadian radio. Not corporate. Great local music. Funny, funny DJ telling us about running from summer-rock avalanches on his fishing trip. Slaying the mighty King Salmon. We laugh at his exaggeration for days until we find out that King Salmon can be 100 lbs...

We eat breakfast and read all about the Gold Rush days in the Yukon. Fascinating. Absolutely fascinating. And the smoked salmon eggs benedict are even better.
