Been there, done that
Seip Mound State Memorial Rest Area, 20 miles South of Chillicothe, Ohio
Amish country, the only scenic road in Ohio (according to our Atlas and its little green dots, anyway). The early evening is incredibly warm (hey, isnt Ohio in the north?) and we argue about whether or not we can put the top of the van up. Will we get rousted? Will there be police? We put the top up because were sweltering, we dont get rousted, then we freeze in the middle of the night.
In the cool of the morning we walk to the mounds. The flowers are amazing, Queen-Annes lace, several kinds of pruple flowers, and puff-balls everywhere. Small burrowing rodents tempt our dogs away from vegetarianism. The mounds are magic, we kiss each other deeply, and then get on the road.
